Barbara album Review

Barbara is the kind of band you listen to when you were born in the wrong era. Bringing back those electric 70s vibes, Barbara, a two-piece band composed of Brighton brothers Henry and John who perfectly encapsulate where good music originated from. Fans of the classic 70s artists such as ABBA, Fleetwood Mac and Queen are 100% guaranteed to LOVE the wonderful discography from Barbara.

Their debut album “Barbara” released on the 5th of September 2025 is an amazing amalgamation of classic 70s music with inspiration from the likes of bands like ABBA, this is the kind of music you put on and dance around your living room to, the kind of music you show to your grandparents who grew up with the same genre. Tracks from the album include, The Contented Commuter, BRB, Tolerant Nation, and Beryl. The album as a whole is a super easy listen, it's not too “in your face” but the perfect amount of energy mixed in with a very chill feel to some of the songs. This is also one of those albums you can listen to either in order or on shuffle, the songs all fit together so seamlessly and never seem to break the mood throughout.

My personal favourite on this album is Tolerant Nation, I think this is the song that I would suggest if anyone ever asked me who Barbara is. It perfectly encapsulates where Barbara take inspiration from, as well as highlighting the singularity of their own music. AS well as all that, this song has an electrifying bass solo about midway through the song, it really keeps you on your toes when listening, you never know when your gonna be thrown into a solo, whether that's a bass, guitar, or even keyboard solo.

I think Barbara's music is one-of-a-kind and you'll never find another artist who manages to pull off a pure 70s discography THIS well, from this era anyway. Just coming off from the tail end of their UK headline tour, I would still consider Barbara a small band, but could absolutely see them performing in full size UK venues with time, I think they truly have something special going for them!
