California Rain - a review

California rain is one of the most anticipated releases of 2026 - and we're only a few days in.

James Marriott has been teasing and playing this song live for months, holding special acoustic sessions after gigs for the truly dedicated fans ready to wait in the cold.

The hype and wait has been more than worth it, California Rain is an anthem ready for screaming live or in your bedroom at 2am. Its for everyone, fans and people waiting to become fans, weaving

between genres effortlessly in seconds in the true Marriott style.

The style of marketing worked incredibly well, with everyone eager to hear the recorded song and add it to their playlists. I for one have been listening to it since its release, and its been stuck in my head since I saw him in November.

Now, I believe a good music video can make or break a song, and the ridiculous one alongside California Rain is spectacular. Its perfect in many ways, including the incredible costumes worn - and, the way Marriott has managed to create two characters without even speaking as them. James has a reputation for his music videos, and that's not for no reason.

The tik tok edit war that accompanied this release also built anticipation, with fandom's like Hamilton and Supernatural battling to beat each other. The different shows and movies I have seen with this song is truly insane, and a creative way to spread out the song across the internet.

Overall, this single identifies a shift in James Marriot'

s music, the entry to a new fabulous era that will bring his loyal listeners more fun, great music and brilliant shows. I for one am very excited to see what comes next.

Cheers,

Eloise xx
