Chasing Dolls, Bristol based young emo band’s first single ‘Cobweb’ was released on the 26th of September. We had a listen to the track and asked the band some questions, and I highly recommend you check Chasing Dolls out. Fans of the Midwest Emo genre (a few on our team…) would enjoy this track, in which they are ‘taking the rollercoaster dynamic of the Midwest-Emo sound rooted across the pond in the US and giving it a gritty British twist; their own emo-inspired sound.’

Cobweb brings a brilliant message of safety, a fuzzy guitar creating that comforting sound the track is all about. The song brings focus to ‘a mind trying to set’, believing in yourself and your own capabilities making one more empathetic in the end. The track starts slow and soft, and then throws you into a chaotic yet groovy drum beat, perfect to dance and mosh to.

We asked the band some questions about their fresh single, giving them the classic Melodify treatment.

Our classic, what would Cobweb be if it was assigned a meal deal?

If Cobweb was a meal deal,  it’d be a club sandwich because it’s heavy and full of surprises haha. A packet of sensations. as the song has quite the kick drum. Then a full fat coke because it is energising and refreshing eh…

If Cobweb played in a film, what sort of scene would it soundtrack?

We could picture Cobweb being played in a coming of age horror movie, where a bunch of reprobate kids in a forgotten town finally explore the town’s derelict spooky mansion. Could picture the song at the start of the scene, as they enter in with anxiety tainted excitement. Then as the song progresses it follows them losing each other and getting split up enduring individual eerie side-quests. Finally in the dramatic last section of Cobweb, they’re reunited in a chamber deep in the mansion and face the thing that split them apart and cast a shadow over the town they live in!

And lastly, who are your musical inspirations?

Musical inspirations are split between the emo/hardcore/math scene with bands like Marietta, Title Fight, Sunny Day Real Estate, Cap N Jazz, American Football etc.

Then we have a deep rooted love for classic Rock N Roll / Post-Punk bands like The Doors, Smiths, Joy Division which defo inspire parts of our live show!

Cobweb is out now on all streaming platforms, and thank you to Chasing Dolls for having us!
