Nothing Too Serious
Nothing Too Serious is Grace Calver’s newest single - one of eleven original tracks. She released an EP in 2023, and is now releasing singles from the ‘blue era.’ She has supported the likes of Welly - former Melodify features - and other personal favourites like GIRLBAND and Alfie Templeman, where she met her current producer. She is a two time New Music Generator award winner, and a force to be reckoned with.
Calver pens ‘tongue in cheek, slightly cringe pop’ and this song certainly lives up to that description. The track, written about a night out after a breakup, is fun, summery and an enjoyable experience overall. A bang average sunny tune with just the right balance of cringe and fun, this track feels as though it was written with a glitter gel pen.
It references Calver’s best friend Evie, and came out on her birthday, which is certainly a sweet touch. Written in the midst of a breakup, it was created to remind her ‘not to look back’ and ‘of all the choices and opportunities that were still ahead’ which she refers to in the lyrics ‘My whole life is right here in front of me, a million choices full of opportunity.’
It was produced, mixed and mastered by Jos Shepard, familiar as Alfie Templeman’s guitarist. The poppy guitar riff makes for a danceable tune you could easily hear being played at a BBQ, or a beach party. It’s a touching reminder about the beauties of female friendship, never hesitating but also letting your hair down. Funny touches, such as referencing the Inbetweeners, make her music so very Grace Calver. Such references certainly aren’t few in this single.
While having its slightly shallow, just teetering over the edge of what is classed as ‘too cringe’ vibe, it is a perfect pop song.
Thank you Grace Calver for this lovely opportunity, and we hope to see you very soon!! Well done on the new track.
