I was so lucky to have this opportunity to speak to Myriad about their band and their newest EP "Living on the internet".

Q: Before we start, could you give a small introduction for each member?

A: Awesome, so our members are David (lead vocals and guitar), OJ (lead guitar and vocals), Jared (bass), and Rai (drums).

Q: How would you describe your music to new listeners?

A: We play music that gets stuck in your head for days - for fans of catfish and the bottlemen, sea girls and vistas

Q: How has making music impacted your life?

A: Music has been part of our lives, since before we even met we played instruments and then learnt guitar when we were teenagers and just kept it going.

Q: Where did the name Myriad come from?

A: Myriad was made when Jared came to us one day with a bunch of words that, at the time, we didn't know what they meant. Jared said the word Myriad and we loved it so we stuck with it; the alternatives were "Turtle" ot "Toucan dance" so Myriad was probably the right descision!

Q: What is your favourite song from your EP "Living on the internet" and why?

A: My favourite song of the EP is "Living on the internet" itself - it's some of my best lyric writing (David) and the song is a banger. OJ loves Oxytocin, Jared loves Sick of the sound and its riffs, and Rai loves Wasted time because the drums are vibey.

Q:If your EP had a scent, what would it be?

A: The EP would 100% be lemon, idk why

Q: Where is your dream location to perform?

A: Our dream location to play is main stage at Isle of Wight festival - when I was a college I used to walk past the festival and tell myself that I was going to play there one day. It keeps us going!

Q: What is your favorite song to play live?

A: My favourite song to play live is either Living on the internet or Oxytocin - we have some really good backing parts to it that make it sound really full and good.

Q: What bands do you take inspiration from?

A: We take inspiration from bands everywhere from the 1975 to dayglow, and foo fighters to blink 182

Q: How would you describe the creative process to writing a song?

A: Usually one of us brings a foundation to a song, like chords, or a vibe, or even just lyrics, then we are all involved when constructing the song early on - it makes each song feel very collaborative.

Q: If your band was an animal, what would it be and why?

A: Myriad would be a dog, because we like dogs.

Q: Do you like interacting with your live audiences? If so, how do you like interacting with them?

A: We interact loads with our live audiences - in our song 3am, everyone gets on the ground then goes wild, and in Living on the internet and Midnight Messages people sing the lyrics so loud!

Q: How do you feel "Living on the internet" has affected you as a band?

A: "Living on the internet" has been great for us - it's always good to have new music out for fans, and also it is a point in time that is captured through the recordings that we can look back on one day.

Q: Why did you write "Living on the internet"?

A: We wrote Living on the internet because we felt how chronically online everyone is right now, so many of the songs are about relationships of all sorts, sometimes with things that aren't even physical or real - it's pretty relevant to 2025 we feel.

Q: Do you have any advice to share for upcoming bands?

A: Our advice to upcoming bands is just to ignore any haters, when you're like 16 people will say you're cringe, just push through it because it will be worth it and you'll be able to play some awesome shows in a few years.

Myriad were such a lovely band to chat with, even online. I personally have been a fan of their music for a while and I can say that anyone with a love for indie, will absolutely adore this band! Myriad are playing at Isle of Wight festival this year on Sunday 22 June, on Platform One stage! They also released an update mentioning that they are BACK in the studio next month to record 5 NEW songs for their next EP!

Thank you to Myriad for letting us do this!

Stream "Living on the internet" anywhere you get your music, and you can find Myriad on Instagram under @myriadbandofficial
