Chase The Wild's new single is a heartfelt breakup anthem that touches on the harsh reality of getting over and emerging from a difficult relationship. it discusses the challenge of finding
someone new, and attempting to jump back into love - or, very possibly, I'm reading too much indie an indie song. Wouldn't be the first time...

Chase The Wild are a band that have always had a very strong and comedic presence online. Their mock "come dine with me" videos are incredible. Really a group of Gordon Ramsey's.
Promotion for new songs is never boring either, going through their Instagram is really a strange yet fun experience. Their posts have even inspired one or two fan accounts, (LittleBitOfSilver ran by yours truly..)
I will admit, in the first 30 seconds of the song I doubted the single. The slowness didn't captivate my attention the way past songs have, and I found myself getting bored. However, as soon as the other instruments enter, and Freddie's vocals mix in time with the guitar strums, I knew my original opinion was very wrong. When the chorus kicked in, I was in awe. The guitar flows beautifully with a rhythm that encapsulates the vibe of a seaside on a sunny day shockingly well (something this band are very good at)- a stark contrast to the emotive lyrics about the passing struggle of "loving someone who doesn't love me back".

The rap section of the song is truly the highlight - the lyrics, the melody and the rhythm weave together perfectly and create a truly incredible verse. It may seem like I'm hyperbolising this, but I was genuinely hypnotised by this section. The vocal slides in "she's a pretty pretty girl" had me obsessed, reminiscent of some sections of "Slide away".
The message of the song (to me) is an important one - getting over a past relationship and learning the tools you need to be 'okay' again is a relatable subject to a lot of, especially young, people. Breakups can feel like the end of the world a lot of the time, but "back of my mind" reminds the listener that there's an end to any emotional pain you may feel, and leaving a relationship where you're not being treated fairly will always be a good decision no matter how in love you may be.
Overall, "back of my mind" taught me two things:
1- Never doubt Chase The Wild.. ends in regret
2- This band will be massive one day. And I'll be stood in the crowd boasting about how long I've been a fan. very excited for this.
The band members include Freddie, Matt, Ben, Ed, Oscar and Ted.

"Back of my mind" out now on all/most streaming platforms - I highly recommend!!
-Cheers, Grace xx
